McDonald's Customers Show Lovin' to Children's Charity

Annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities renamed to support McDonald’s renewed commitment to ‘lovin’’ piece of ‘i’m lovin’ it’

OAK BROOK, Ill. – May 1, 2015 – Paper Hearts will soon line the walls of McDonald’s 14,000 U.S. restaurants as the company kicks off its 13th annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

As part of its refreshed focus on the “lovin’” piece of “i’m lovin’ it,” McDonald’s is renaming the former “Give a Hand” fundraiser to “lovin’ for RMHC.” For over 40 years, McDonald’s has stood behind RMHC in its mission, providing support and awareness as one more proof point that a little more lovin’ can change a lot.

“Lovin’ for RMHC” kicks off May 1 and continues through May 10 in participating restaurants nationwide. To participate, customers purchase paper Hearts in $1, $3 or $5 denominations. Customers can also donate online by visiting www.donate.rmhc.org.

Through donations and events like “lovin’ for RMHC,” the Charity is able to serve more than 9 million children and families around the world every year. RMHC creates family-centered programs such as Ronald McDonald Houses, which serve as a “home away from home” for families with sick children to stay together while their child receives medical treatment.

All proceeds go to RMHC, providing togetherness for families when they need it most. Event organizers hope to raise more than $5 million this year, adding to the more than $47.7 million collected from McDonald’s customers since the annual event was started in 2003.

“Through our 40-year relationship with RMHC, McDonald’s, together with our customers, support the Charity and help raise awareness of its caring cause,” said Julie Wenger, senior director, McDonald’s US Marketing. “This year, we’re hoping to gather even more donations in the spirit of sharing some lovin’ with families and children who need it most.”

With continued support from McDonald’s and its customers, RMHC raises funds through not only the national “lovin’ for RMHC” event, but also from ongoing donations from Happy Meal or Mighty Kids Meal sales, in-restaurant RMHC Donation Boxes and various local initiatives. Customers are encouraged to stop by and drop change in a RMHC Donation Box when they visit McDonald’s throughout the year, but especially on Oct. 15, the annual RMHC Day of Change.

To learn more about RMHC and its work, visit www.rmhc.org, www.Facebook.com/RMHCglobal or www.Twitter.com/RMHC. Customers are encouraged to use #forRMHC on social media to share how they’ve supported the Charity, the news of their donation and to raise awareness about what RMHC does for families and children.
