McDonald’s USA Celebrates Commitment to Rainforest Alliance Certification, Promotes Responsible Coffee Sourcing and Expands McCafé Seasonal Flavors
Made with 100% Espresso from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms, new McCafé Pumpkin Spice Latte now available nationwide for a limited time this fall
OAK BROOK, Ill. — (September 24, 2013) — McDonald’s USA will launch McCafé Pumpkin Spice Latte this month and celebrate its sustainability commitments by featuring the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal, a distinctive green frog, in its marketing and communications.
All McCafé espresso drinks from McDonald’s USA are brewed with 100% Espresso from Arabica coffee beans, high-grown on Rainforest Alliance Certified farms. The national release of McCafé Pumpkin Spice Latte builds on McDonald’s support of the Rainforest Alliance’s “Follow the Frog” week, which took place from Sept. 16 – 22. The beverage will be available in McDonald’s restaurants through mid-November.

Responsible Coffee Sourcing
McCafé espresso coffee drinks are brewed using espresso beans responsibly sourced from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms, which means the farms meet comprehensive standards for environmental protection as well as support the farmers and communities where the coffee is sourced. McDonald’s has pursued Rainforest Alliance certification to support sustainable supply and to signal the importance of responsible coffee sourcing to consumers.

In addition to working with the Rainforest Alliance, McDonald’s USA, McDonald’s Canada and their franchisees announced an investment earlier this year of more than $6.5 million over the course of 4.5 years in a technical assistance program to help approximately 13,000 coffee farmers in Central America produce and process more sustainably.
The majority of McDonald’s certified coffee bean purchases are from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms, including 100% of our espresso in the US and Canada, and all McDonald’s coffee in Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, McDonald’s markets in Europe source 100% of their coffee from farms that are Rainforest Alliance Certified, Utz Certified, or Fair Trade International, with the exception of decaf.
Introducing New, Premium Seasonal Coffee Flavor
McCafé Pumpkin Spice Latte is a blend of freshly brewed espresso and steamed milk combined with the fall-inspired flavors of cinnamon and pumpkin pie. The made-to-order specialty coffee drink is available with whole or non-fat milk to cater to individual tastes and preferences.

- Medium (16 oz.) – 260-340 calories; $2.89
- Large (20 oz.) – 320-430 calories; $3.39
