OAK BROOK, Ill., Nov. 8, 2013 – McDonald’s USA launched the 11th annual “Give A Hand” fundraiser today with a goal to help raise $5 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).
From now until Nov. 20, supporters can give a hand to families in need by purchasing a paper hand available in $1, $3 or $5 denominations at participating McDonald’s restaurants nationwide. Each donation supports RMHC family-centered programs in the U.S., such as Ronald McDonald Houses that serve as a “home away from home” for families with sick children to stay together, providing comfort, stability and significant cost savings in travel, accommodations and meals.
“For nearly 40 years, McDonald’s restaurants across America have supported and promoted the caring cause of RMHC,” said Ubong Ituen, vice president of marketing, McDonald’s USA. “Our support of RMHC is made possible with the backing of our franchisees, employees and suppliers, as well as generous donations from McDonald’s customers at our more than 14,000 restaurants.”
“RMHC programs support more than 7 million children and their families around the world each year,” said Sheila Musolino, chief operating officer, RMHC. “This important Give A Hand fundraiser assists us in our ongoing mission to help and keep families together when they need it most.”

New to this year’s McDonald’s “Give A Hand” fundraiser is a Family Togetherness Photo Contest in partnership with Snapfish by HP.  The contest invites families to upload a photo that demonstrates what family togetherness means to them. Families who enter will have the chance to win a family vacation, prizes from Snapfish by HP, and more.  To enter, visit
In addition, as part of this year’s efforts, McDonald’s is introducing a new Augmented Reality program. When customers download the McDonald’s Augmented Reality app and connect it with their paper Give A Hand, they’ll get a personal virtual thank you from Ronald McDonald.
