Giving Thanks...and Breakfast: South Phoenix Thanksgiving Celebration Unites Local Community
November 24, 2015 Since 1993, McDonald's owner/operator Julián Nabozny has served complimentary breakfast to thousands of South Phoenix residents on Thanksgiving morning. What begin as a simple gesture of gratefulness, has become a highly anticipated event for the South Phoenix community. Today, the event serves over 4,000 complimentary breakfasts to local residents and provides thousands of families a fun-filled start to their Thanksgiving holiday. An additional 3,000 local residents attend the event for the complimentary turkeys, raffles and prizes distributed by community partners. Over 20 businesses will be on-site to spend Thanksgiving morning with attendees and distribute giveaway items including free turkeys.
“I started this event 22 years ago as a way to give back to my local community and do something to help out those in need, I never envisioned the event growing to what is today," said Nabozny. "I am honored to have the opportunity to host members of my community on Thanksgiving morning, especially during a time when so many families are need. It's amazing how far a small gesture can go."
The annual 22nd annual South Phoenix Thanksgiving event has grown from its original McDonald's restaurant dining room setting with four families to serving over 120,000 community members over the past 22 years. The event features live musical entertainment by local artists, turkey giveaways, health screenings and other on-site activities provided by local businesses.
“I would like to personally thank my community partners for their on-going generosity and support of this event throughout the years. Their time and dedication to our event is a major contributor to its success, and together we provide families a wonderful start to their holiday season," said Julián.
