Running for a Reason
November 16, 2015 McDonald’s Corporation’s very own Liz Coffey a manager on the Internal Communications team ran in the 2015 New York City Marathon to benefit Ronald McDonald House New York.
Liz and two dozen other runners raised more than $85,000 for kids and their families needing a “home away from home” while seeking treatment at New York City hospitals. The team had the opportunity to visit the Upper East Side house before the race and meet those helped by the charity. They also learned about the house’s upcoming renovation project, which will increase the number of families it can serve and include special suites for patients who’ve undergone bone marrow transplants and need 90 days of isolation afterwards.
“Knowing what we were running for made all the difference. The bridges over the East River seemed a little shorter… and the hills in Central Park a little smaller. What a powerful experience,” said Coffey.
Liz finished the marathon in 3:24:42, with an average pace of 7:48 per mile.
