Kimberly Faust started her first job working at her local McDonald’s when she was 16. After she graduated high school, she moved to a McDonald’s near her college campus. Her owner-operator was very flexible with her hours and encouraged her to take advantage of McDonald’s Archways to Opportunity program. Archways to Opportunity is an education program which provides eligible U.S. employees at participating restaurants an opportunity to earn a high school diploma, receive upfront college tuition assistance, access free education advising services and learn English as a second language. Read more about Kimberly’s story and experience with the Archways to Opportunity program below.

Question: How did your McDonald’s and the Archways to Opportunity program help you when you went away to college?

Answer: “I was very far from home when I was in college. My McDonald’s was super supportive of my desire to go to college and I’m still in contact with many of my team members. Some of them even went to my college graduation. The Archways tuition assistance helped me have one less thing to worry about. I was very focused on getting my degree in four years and I am so thankful that tuition assistance helped me achieve that.”

Q: How did the Archways to Opportunity program help you achieve your goals?

A: “I’m really thankful that my owner-operator helped me receive Archways to Opportunity tuition assistance. It helped take the financial burden of paying for college off my plate. I’m now working as a preschool teacher and getting my Master’s degree in elementary education.”

Q: Based on your experience, would you recommend the McDonald’s Archways to Opportunity program to current McDonald’s restaurant employees?

A: “I would tell any McDonald’s restaurant employee to take advantage of Archways because you don’t only earn work skills from working at McDonalds but you can also earn tuition assistance to pursue a future career at McDonald’s or elsewhere.”
